Mildred “Mac” Selby


Mrs. Mildred Selby passed away on Saturday evening July 18, 2020 at Parker home in Somerset. She was 92 years old.


Mrs. Selby was born in New Brunswick and lived in the city for many years prior to moving to Midway Beach then moved back to New Brunswick in 2012. She attended St. Peter’s High School and New Brunswick High School. Mrs. Selby retired from the New Brunswick Police department as a Secretary after 26 years of service to the force.

She was a member of the Columbiettes Council Number 257, a Silver Life member of the New Brunswick PBA Local 23. She was an avid bowler and baker. She also loved to knit and took pride in making hats for cancer patients. She was also an animal lover and a volunteer with the Deborah Heart and Lung Jersey Shore Chapter.


Mrs. Selby was pre deceased by her parents Lilian and Lawerence McManus, her husband Edward in 1996 and a brother Gerard McManus who passed away while serving in World War II.


She is survived by her children Jerry Selby and his wife Norma of Lemon Grove, CA., Edward Selby and his wife Karen of Milltown and Patricia Sadowski and her husband Joseph of New Brunswick. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren Brian, Allison, Erica, Michael, Emma, Kelly and Casey and her five great grandchildren Mikey, Robert, Gianna, Azucena and Lilah.

Visiting will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 PM at the Gleason Funeral Home with a blessing being held at 6:30 PM. All other services will be held privately. Please consider a contribution in Mrs. Selby’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www.jdrf.org

Our condolences to the Selby family for your loss. Mac will be missed by everyone. She was a legendary figure in the City and her Police Department. Such a wonderful person who will always be remembered leaving a legacy forever. God Bless her!

I have many happy memories being included in Selby family celebrations and weekends at Midway beach. There’s got to be a beach in heaven and i’de like to think Mac and “Easy Ed” are sitting there together in their beach chairs with their toes in the water just chillin’. That is heaven.
