Obituary for Frank Walcott

Frank Walcott, 93 (½), passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 with his daughter by his side at Regency Heritage Care Center in Somerset, NJ.

Mr. Walcott was born November 18, 1925 in Barbados, West Indies. In 1949, he immigrated to the United States and settled in the Bronx, NY. Soon after arriving in the U.S. Frank studied and obtained his electricians certification. In 1952, he rekindled his friendship with Joyce (Franklin) Walcott, whom he knew in Barbados; and in 1956 they were happily married. They relocated to Somerset, NJ in 1978.

Frank began his career in the U.S. at Getty Oil Company in NY as a Pricing Regulator. He furthered his career as a Stone Cutting Supervisor at The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in NY. He was also a Senior Warden and a Vestryman at both, St. Ambrose Church in NY and Grace Episcopal Church in Plainfield, NJ.

Frank was a longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church, NJ and most recently a member of Christ Church in New Brunswick, NJ. He was a Men’s Guild member at St. Ambrose Church and Founded the Men’s Guild at Grace Episcopal Church. He was also a member of the Carlisle Cricket Club in NY.

Frank loved yardwork, and he enjoyed occasional visits to the racetrack. Frank was known for being able to repair almost anything, but his true passion was spending time taking care of his grandson Darius after school.

Mr. Walcott is survived by his daughter, Dawn Sheree Scott and her husband Jeffrey; his devoted companion, Peggy Archer; his grandchildren, Lyle Anthony II, Colin Matthew, Cordell Levar, Johnnie Harold and Darius John; his great grandchild, Jayden Malik; his sister, Quita Niles; his brother, Steve Walcott and several nephews, nieces and Godchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Joyce Walcott; his mother, Hilda Walcott; his son, Lyle Anthony Walcott I and his brothers, Leonard and Clyde Walcott.

Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday, May,23 2019 from 6 to 9 P.M. at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ 08873.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Christ Episcopal Church in New Brunswick. Rev. Joann Hollis of Christ Church will be officiating. Entombment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park Mausoleum in North Brunswick.
