Condolences

Condolence From: Charles A. Boyle
Condolence: I was terribly saddened to hear of the news of the death of Winston Hughes. My heartfelt condolences and sympathies go out to his family.

Winston was an instrumental part of our early education “adventures” in Edison Township, starting with the opening of Thomas Jefferson Junior High School in 1959. I was privileged to continue working with him for many years. When I was later the Principal of Edison High School, I wasn’t satisfied with the choral program and was fortunate enough to entice him to join us there. My eldest daughter has said her love of choral music came from attending one of his A Capella Choir concerts at that time and is still singing. We still have the LPs to this day and will play them in his honor.

My fondest memory of Winston was hearing the praise for him at the Jersey City State Teacher College where our 7th grade students performed against high school students. While no awards were presented, the judges commended Winston and the students for their incredible performance. I am certain anyone who sang with him agrees.

Condolence: He was a truly inspiring person. Patient but exacting, exemplifying the best. He was so capable of eliciting the finest from all he taught and all he touched with his musical acumen. Over the years I have many fond, pleasant memories of the music he so masterfully enabled us to create. Choir, chorus, Keytones would not be the same without his very capable direction! Thanks Lord for giving us Winston Hughes!!

Condolence: Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Mr. Hughes was my Choir teacher in high school and was a terrific teacher and lovely person. Many people were affected by his devotion and kindness to his students and colleagues.I became a Singer Songwriter because of his mentoring & encouragement. I ran into him a while back at his home on Kory Street and showed him my latest CD, He was proud of it as I was of being one of his many students. I am very sorry for your loss.

Condolence: I never knew Mr. Hughes in the way so many others did. My loss. However, as an EHS student (Class of '68) I remember him and morn his passing for the tremendous impact he had on so many over the course of his 40 years in teaching. Everyone knew he was a leader, not because of his title or position, rather because people chose to follow him. That was obvious in everything he did whether leading his orchestra or choir or just walking down the halls of EHS. I didn't know him...but I wish I had.
