George Saloom, Sr.
Retired New Brunswick Police Officer
George Saloom, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully in his home on April 24th, after a long illness. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, April 29th from 10:00 A.M to 2:00 P.M. at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 P.M. Interment will be private.
Born and raised in New Brunswick and Milltown, George lived in North Brunswick for the last 45 years. He attended New Brunswick High School and was a member of its championship Football and Baseball teams, graduating in 1950.
George was a retired New Brunswick police officer, having served for 31 years, retiring in 1987. He served as the P.B.A. president for 7 years. George co-founded “The Call Box”, an informational newsletter for retired New Brunswick police officers. He was also proud to be a member of the New Brunswick Elks and the North Brunswick Traffic Safety Committee. In his free time, he enjoyed carpentry, hosting barbecues for family and friends, hunting and golfing.
He was predeceased by his son, George Jr., in 2003, his brothers Samuel, David and Howard, and his sisters Selma Kinelski and Lillian Callaway.
George is survived by his daughter Cindy, his granddaughter Samantha, his sisters Alice Cicio and Esther Shamy, and several nieces and nephews whom he cared for very deeply.
