Obituary for Jean Boyko

Jean  Boyko
Jean (Gwiazda) Boyko, 93, of North Brunswick N.J., passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at St. Peter’s hospital surrounded by her loving family. She lived in Newark and Bayonne prior to North Brunswick.

Visitation will be held at Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ 08873 on Friday, April 6th from 4-8 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 7th at 11:30 A.M. at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Kendall Park. Entombment will follow at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens in Woodbridge.

Jean was a 1946 graduate of New Jersey City University and Jersey City Medical Center with a BS in health education and RN in nursing. She was in the Nurse Cadet Corp. during World War II. She retired in 1987 from the Bayonne Board of Education having taught Practical Nursing at the High School and Health Education as an elementary school nurse.

Mrs. Boyko was an active member of the Jersey City Medical Center Alumni Association, former member of the Hudson County retired educators and a 40 year member of the Harvard University Nurses Health Study. She was an active member of the American Red Cross, a former member of the North Brunswick Columbiettes and Pioneer Seniors and the AARP Chapter 3885.

Jean is survived by her daughters Sandra Policastro (Robert), Joette Jago (John), and daughter-in-law Dr. Jean Boyko; cherished grandchildren Matthew (Melody) and Marc (Leslie) Policastro, Daniel (Christina) Jago, Dr. Jennifer (Zachary) McGinniss, Megan (Ralph) Cardillo, Christine Boyko and Ryan Jago; great grandchildren Jakob, Mason, Adler and Logan.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph, loving son Robert, infant twins Gregory and Jeffrey, great granddaughter Katelyn, parents Walter and Alice Gwiazda and sister Vera Gwiazda.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Ronald McDonald House in New Brunswick, N.J. or Mary’s Place by the Sea, Ocean Grove N.J.
