Rose Marie (Maimone) Catanese
Mrs. Rose Marie Catanese passed away early on Tuesday morning at her home in New Brunswick at the age of 95.
Mrs. Catanese was born in New Brunswick and remained a lifetime resident of the city. She also was a part-time resident of Toms River.
She was a graduate of New Brunswick High School, Class of 1942. Mrs. Catanese worked for over forty two years with Johnson and Johnson/Ethicon where she was a member of the Twenty Five Year Club and the Retiree’s Club. Mrs. Catanese was also a member of the New Brunswick Senior Citizens and the New Brunswick Seniors Choir. She was a devout parishioner of Saint Mary of Mount Virgin Church in New Brunswick and of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Seaside Heights. She was a member of the Blue Coat Petticoats, the woman’s auxiliary of the New Brunswick Police Department. Mrs. Catanese enjoyed her days at the beach in Seaside Heights and the pools in Warren and Toms River. She was also quite the dancer in her day.
Mrs. Catanese volunteered her time with her children’s Parent Teacher Association, The Ethicon Blood Bank, at The Midland School in North Branch and the Matheny School in Peapack, at The Parker Home in New Brunswick and in her neighborhood where she provided transportation to her neighbors who could no longer drive.
She was pre deceased by her parents Peter and Nicolina Maimone, her husband Captain Anthony Catanese of the New Brunswick Police Department, her son Peter Catanese, sister Grace Catanese, sister Mary Sura, brother Placido Maimone, brother Rosario Maimone, sister in law Antoinette Catanese and nephew Walter Sura.
Mrs. Catanese is survived by her daughter Carolyn Carroll and her husband Michael of Toms River, her sister Josephine Catanese and her husband Larry of East Brunswick along with her nephews Anthony, Larry and Dominic Catanese and Peter Elwood, Rosario and Frank Maimone and all of her many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews
Visiting will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday March 11, 2018 at the Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset. Funeral services will begin on Monday morning at 9:15 AM at the Gleason Funeral Home and a funeral mass will begin on Monday March 12 at St. Mary of Mount Virgin Church in New Brunswick. Entombment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick. Please consider a contribution in Mrs. Catanese’s name to St. Mary of Virgin Church in lieu of flowers.
