Gerhardt Walter Muller, 75, of Hillsborough NJ, passed away on Sunday evening while at Robert Wood Johnson hospital in Somerville.
Gerhardt was born in Weis, Austria, and emigrated to the United States aboard Pan American World Airways on June 1, 1948. He was the first unaccompanied minor to be aboard an intercontinental flight bound for the US.
He was a long time resident of Franklin Township, and a fixture in the community, having co-owned and operated Township Pharmacy for many years. He was also a member of the Somerset Moose Lodge. Gerhardt loved technology and learning about new advances in science, medicine, and leisure. He enjoyed boats, cooking, music, and conversations about events, both current and historic. Gerhardt was a unique balance of American culture and Austrian sensibility.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years Carolyn Jean Muller, sons Christopher (Silvia) Muller, Geoffrey Muller, brothers Manfred and Roland, grandchildren Sofia and Alejandra, and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A memorial mass for Gerhardt will take place at St. Joseph church in Hillsborough on Saturday, February 10, at 10 am.
