After 91 years on this earth, Cecelia Nigro passed away on Wednesday at Community Medical Center in Toms River to be reunited with her beloved husband Joe Nigro.

Mrs. Nigro was born in Perth Amboy and graduated from Perth Amboy High School and the St. Peter’s Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as the Supervisor of St. Peter’s Hospital Operating Room, Head Nurse of the State School for Boys in Jamesburg and also worked in private practice for Dr. Joseph Kler in New Brunswick. She eventually retired as Nursing Supervisor from Woodbridge Child Diagnostic Center.

She resided in Franklin Park for nearly 50 years and was a parishioner of St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Kendall Park where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed travelling with her husband especially to Aruba where they visited annually for over 25 years and received an award for tourism from the Governor of Aruba.

Mrs. Nigro was pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years, Joseph in 2003. The youngest of the Olszewski family, she is also pre-deceased by her siblings Frank, Lucille, Betty, Stella, Josie, Helen, Mary, Lottie and Fran.
She is survived by her sons Joseph F. Nigro Jr. and Mark Nigro and his wife Carol both of Toms River, her grandchildren Nicole, TJ, and Jacob along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will begin on Monday at 9:15 AM at the Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset followed by a 10 AM funeral mass at. St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Kendall Park. Entombment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Visiting will be held from 2-6 PM on Sunday at the Gleason Funeral Home.
